Did the NA 1.8 become available with auto box
Guys - I am interested in buying a 1.8 AUTO and have a seller whose description is a little vague - is there a way I can tell if the car is a Turbo or not, from the reg number?

Drop Brian a PM Ian, I could be wrong but he seems to be able to pull up the build data from the reg number.

You could definitely get the 1.8 as a non turbo auto. I've driven one.

My Wedgewood
Ian,
My old 1.8 Auto Wedgewood Blue 75 yx52 xxx was indeed a normally aspirated 1.8. I have to be honest that while it was fine for me I reckon you would find it a tad underpowered. My recently acquired 1.8 Turbo is far, far quicker than my old car. Without any doubt! Chris |

Yeah, ponderous, is the best way to describe it. Manual 1.8s are pleasant enough, but I felt this didn't really have anything to give. It'd be fine for pottering about, but for quick take-offs, it's not the car. If it's a nice enough example, it's worth a look!

Mine is an auto 1.8 NAS (non-Turbo)
From memory it's about as fast as my old 2.8 V6 Granada Ghia (non-injection, it had a webber carb). In some situations it's actually faster than the Granada. . . Mid range torque of the 1.8 NAS is lacking (making overtaking a scary rev-fest) but otherwise I'm very happy with it. But then I'm not a boy racer Ali.
