Default Sagging rear bumper (Tourer) cure?

For some years I've put up with a drooping rear bumper on the offside but having for the first time removed it last weekend I see the problem. There is one self tapper that should screw into the usual spring clip slipped onto a bracket but the bracket has gone.
The only cure I can see - till someone tells me otherwise - is to remove the bumper again, drill a pilot hole into the metal, then use a 50mm self tapper straight into the bodywork. All the four torx headed bolts are present along the top lip of the bumper underneath the protective panel but maybe some of the combs have gone on the side.

Hi Dave
Maybe make an L bracket which can be glued or screw to the light surround, or even a chco block length ways, screw or glue one of those which will be easy to screw the bumper to and be more robust, drill hole in the end for the screw.

You could of course replace the bracket
I certainly would not put a screw into the bodywork, for a start the hole in the bumper is some distance away from the metal and it would sag.

Sorry to ignore your advice but I've been and gonner done it. Bumper off - centre punch between broken bracket - drilled 3.2mm hole - screwed 60mm self tapper to start a thread - removed - replaced bumper - tightened self tapper to make nice snug fit that restores the line.

Silly thing to make a fuss about but it annoyed me every time I opened the tailgate.

When you have nothing else to do!

Make up a spacer that fills the gap between the bumper and the car body and wide enough to touch what remains of your bracket, thus stopping the screw from pulling sideways. A dab of adhesive would seal the screw from possible rusting.
