CDti 75 Automatic Will NOT Start!!
Hi guys I do apologise if this has been beaten to death with a NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- stick but these are the symptoms.
My Son has let the battery discharge, I arrive with Triumph TR8 and attach Jump leads I start my car he gets into car and it turns over like a gatling gun but resolutely refuses to start..Its like an immobiliser is on..absolutely no stutter or cough just turns over. No warning lights either I leave my car running for ten minutes and remove jump leads, there is zero in his battery. We are going to remove the battery ( his car is at his work) tonight and recharge and refit but could something have tripped and need resetting at all as I said it just was never going to start although it did turn over on the starter motor very quickly. Any help much appreciated. I have just sold the Volvo 850R and am looking for another Rover/MG Tourer so I'll be back! |

Is the car in park mode? I understand it has to be in park before it will start.

You can't beat those "bulletproof" BMW diesels!

Does any RPM show up when cranking?
if yes crank sensor is ok... simple checks... is engine check light on? remove and remake plugs on under bonnet fuel filter housing and high pressure fuel rail sensor (both easily accessed with just the bonnet open). Go under passenger footwell, on the left just behind the glovebox, against the inside of the lower A pillar is the impact fuel cutoff... make sure the plug is on tight and press the reset on top... report back... if the engine is cranking it is not the inhibitor switch on the gearbox... failing that I would T4 it as the comms bus may have an issue (Hence the EP showing)

two ways however -Electrical control issue (generally flooded ECU etc ...) -fuel feeding check low pressure (listen for the two LP pumps ) lack of common rail High pressure (leaky injector i.e) confirmed by a sniff of easy start If handy with multimeters, see : http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=109615 good luck Mike Last edited by FrenchMike; 9th April 2017 at 19:10.. |

the engine's themselves are bulletproof... like any other car though it relies on fuel and electronics telling the ECU to open the injectors...
there is far less to go wrong on a BMW diesel lump than ANY of the petrol models...

My old JCB, with a gravity fed fuel system, from a 5 gallon drum on the roof, never let me down. Parked it on the hill so I could bump start it and it never had a battery, just pressed the cold start button on the pump, handbrake off, let it roll and lift the clutch in second gear. Enjoy your diesels. Vehicle electronics - hate 'em!
