Default Windows Vista To Be Replaced Next Year

Bill Gates today announced the Next Windows Operating System Windows 7 will launch next year.
This is way ahead of Schedule and is because of the Awful Take up of Vista and the Disappointment of Users.
Windows XP Pro will now run even when new Version is out But Vista as it is will be dropped and Disappear from Microsoft's listings.
XP Pro is now the Choice of all new Computer Sales in last Quarter.

Further information to follow from MS.
Beta Versions already out in USA and US Government have been issued with full Copies.

Thats bad!, feel sorry for people who've went and bought Vista. They should get heavily discounted (or even FREE) versions of the new one then.
Glad I stuck with XP pro!.

The swear filter would not allow me to express in words the contempt I feel for Micro$oft if this announcement is true.

I spent a considerable amount of money buying the top of the line version of Vista less than a year ago and it's now going to be obsolete.

Meanwhile the Micro$oft juggernaut rumbles on taking customer's money in exchange for poorly sorted alpha stage software masquerading as "retail ready".

To be frank, I've had very little problem with Vista and actually like using it.

This sort of behaviour from the behemoth though, will do nothing to reduce the use of pirated copies of their software. Who in their right mind will pay through the nose for something as fundamental as an OS only for it to become worthless in less than a year?

Having gone through the hardware/software upgrade path from Win98 to XP, the thought of having to go through all that again with Vista made me hold back. I've been dabbling with Kubuntu Linux of late and it's a breeze to use. Most of the applications I need are all open source and there are Linux compatible versions of Windows based apps. Hardware seems well supported and it was free to download.

If Micro$oft continue to alienate their users, as they appear to have done with Vista, I can see more and more people switching to either Apple or Linux.

It will be in all Computer magazines next month and is on several News Flash updates on line including Computer Shopper now I believe.

I got it as a Certified Microsoft Partner.

Main Problem Paul was that Business didn't take it up hardly at all, and Microshaft don't use it themselves.
Meaning their biggest source of income was still from older OS.
As so many Machines were not able to run it due to lack of drivers etc and even some of the most expensive software doesn't run on Vista.

As you may have noticed recently in adverts for systems, XP Pro is now available again instead of Vista after Microsoft had to cancel its withdrawal due to demand both from Public and Business due to Lack of support from the Computer Industry and software people in General.
So not all Microsoft's Fault.

Not a Good thing at all,
good time to Switch to a MAC.

John you surprise me. I'd have thought you'd have known that it has nothing to do with Vista and its poor take up.

Its just microsoft going back to its usual release schedules. They release OS's every 2 years with the exception of XP because they wanted to pull their file sysytems together and address the Kernels coding.

Windows 7 is so like Vista its unreal, and most of the Windows 7 features will be put into Vista as part of SP2 apart from its file system.

Win95 > Win98
Win98 > WinMe
WinME > Win2k
Win2k > Win XP

All no more than 3 years between them. Why should Vista to Windows 7 suddenly be deemed as "OMG Vista sucks" worthy?

As a microsoft specialist, it shouldn't and any article or information protraying to the contrary is just poorly written and ill advised.

And just for the record, Bill Gates didn't announce it today. Windows 7 has been on the horizon since December last year with a launch date of 2009.

Its complete, total, unmitigated rubbish I'm afraid. MS is at >95% Vista/Office 2007 Enterprise deployment to the desktop (>60k seats). And, as for lack of corporate support!!! I invite you to review this list http://www.microsoft.com/casestudies...ize=1000000002

The only reason Vista was delayed was because of XP SP2, and Windows server 2008 needs Vista. XP Pro will not benefit from 2K8 server.

All Microsoft products suck. It's the nature of the bloatware produced by said company. Vista is the epitome of the paradigm.
I do find the lack of support by the developer community rather odd, so many thinking it unworthy of new drivers.

All Reports State the Same thing.
IBM (US) have not installed 1 Copy of Vista anywhere worldwide.
We still use XP Pro, Unix, Server 2003 as Main Platforms plus about 10 others.
In US Microsoft have NO instances of Vista in any offices or Locations/
Only for demonstration Purposes.
Yes Dates are preset for each OS but you well know they are never met.
Vista has less than a 1% take up in Proper Commercial Business and Environment.
Figures are From MS US where I am normally one week in four.
Don't be taken in my Garbage and get your Facts Right for other than UK which is a minuscule part of Figures.
Most of Figures and Companies shown running Vista have now Changed, gone to Proper OS's
More than once this year they have been told to get their released facts correct after Company denied using it!

Press release:
Gates: Windows 7 "coming next year"
8:02AM, Monday 7th April 2008

MIAMI--Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates on Friday indicated that Windows 7, the next major version of Windows, could come within the next year, far ahead of the development schedule previously indicated by the software maker.
In response to a question about Windows Vista, Gates, speaking before the Inter-American Development Bank here, said: "Sometime in the next year we will have a new version." Referring to Windows 7, the code name for the next full release of Windows client software, Gates said: "I'm super-enthused about what it will do in lots of ways."
Most of Gates' speech was devoted to topics closer to home for the crowd, such as how Latin America can be more competitive.

in which case, I find it highly amusing that the statement issued there is EXACTLY the same wording as this one:

17 Jan 2008

which went on to add:

Quote:
We (MS) have revised the roadmap and moved up the release date by a few months: Current distributed roadmaps of the OS lists a release to manufacturing in H2 2009.

An added feature is the ability of the M1 software to handle a heterogeneous graphics system consisting of multiple graphics cards from different vendors. A new version of the Media center is already integrated in this software, but supports PC speakers only at this time.
As I received that in January, I'd question this 'press release'.

Also, I admit I was wrong, its not 60k in the UK, its actually, 90k worlwide:

Quote:
Microsoft IT provides global IT services that range from server and network operations to software deployment and end-user technical support. Microsoft IT had to prepare for the deployment of Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 to over 90,000 desktops worldwide. This deployment relied on new deployment technologies and provided a valuable opportunity to prove the new operating system and its underlying deployment technologies.
