You are only 12 miles away from BigRuss in Liversedge, I'd arrange a trip to see him, get the T4 plugged in, will give the cause of the airbag light and may also show what's causing the starting probs.

Smile Air bag warning light fixed By Bigg Russ

A big thank you to BigRuss today who identified the problem to the passenger seat contacts. A quick fiddle under the seat Russ managed to clear the fault. T4 is amazing picking up all the faults I have had over the years. Main thing is there isn't any major problems and the Rover lives on. Air bag warning lights or any warning lights these days are an MOT failure!

Its usually the underseat connectors but with my 1.8T it turned out to be the driver's side seat belt pre-tensioner itself. I would never have found that by trial and error myself.

Glad it's fixed. Don't pack it in at the first signs of problems. A lot of issues are quite straightforward and you will have problems with it being an older car but it's part of the character of our beautiful motors. I'm sure yours will live on for many years to come.
