Default IE8 - Open Link in New Tab

Until tonight, when I right-clicked on a link in IE8, the context menu had a OPEN LINK IN NEW TAB option. Suddenly the option has gone from the context menu. Any ideas why?

NB. If I go to Tools/Internet Options/Tabs/Settings - A NEW TAB IN THE CURRENT WINDOW is checked under the heading ALWAYS OPEN LINKS FROM OTHER PROGRAMS IN:

At present it is better IMHO to stick with IE7 for this site,
as this and some other sites do not function properly in all areas with IE8 Beta 2.

I can't answer posts to the thread below this one since IE won't open the thread page (or any thread page except a new one).

As pointed out by JDC, if you're running IE8 then it's best switch to another browser or downgrade IE back to version 7. IE8 is still unstable (as you are experiencing) and so is best not used as your main browser.

FireFox, Safari and Chrome are all free downloads and extremely capable browsers.

Aha - just found a possible solution.

Switching on IE8's 'Compatibility View' mode (Tools/tick Compatibility View) for this forum seems to work.

Or rather - no it doesn't - hitting the 'submit reply' button causes IE page to lock up with 'waiting' in the notification area. The only way out then is Task Manager even though the post I just typed has been submitted to the website.

Threads now merged seeing as IE isn't helping you much at the moment Simon.

Test post. Pls ignore!

Edit: Crikey - it worked!! (with IE8 Beta set to read club site in 'Compatibility View' which went loopy earlier but now doesn't ). IE8 seems ok all round now but this is Microsoft so if it can go wrong, it will.

If anyone is interested, there are a couple of nice bits in IE8 - e.g. the 'Find On This Page' toolbar:

If you click on "edit" (top left) in IE7 you get the "search on this page" option.
