New front springs
My 51 plate ZT failed MOT on cracked front spring.
Quite pleased with that for 21 year old car Question is getting a correct replacement- apparently there’s a “sticker” under rear seat setting out the correct one. I understand they are colour coded as well. Having said that someone else told me it doesn’t matter as it’s the back ones are the more important ones to get right ? I was only getting the one but thinking best replace the pair Any assistance great fully received |

I agree, replace the pair. The bolts at the bottom of the strut and holding the arm ball joint can be a cow to remove.
Yes there is a sticker under the rear seat, sometimes this is worn so cannot be read. I am sure there is a list somewhere, that should tell you what sprigs and dampers should be fitted. Sure it is on the forum but no idea where, sorry macafee2 found this, not that helpful, need to scroll down the page https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID001542 Last edited by macafee2; 19th January 2023 at 19:14.. |

Thanks for that - yes been through that - lots of choice. I rang them in the end but the guy at Rimmers was adamant I’d need the details of the sticker to get correct one(s). I tried giving him the chassis no/reg no., but it’s the plate details he needs

If the sticker has worn, take a picture of it with a phone camera with the flash on.

Hi Robert,
When I had broken springs I spoke directly to X-Part. They will be able to determine the part number you need and supply them as well. Delivery by APC is a very reasonable £6. Simon

Providing it's a Diesel or V6, these will be absolutely fine:
https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/products/mg-...esel-reb000890 The differences in specification was very small (apart from the Sports setting, which was noticeably more firm).

I went to the garage where car is and found the sticker.
I think they couldn’t be bothered to look but anyway got it sorted and ordered a correct pair off Rimmers based on the sticker Thanks for the help |

It's worth noting a couple of things in relation to springs.....
They ARE all specific to the engine & bodyshell & then again specific to the 75 or ZT versions. So each engine version has it's own Front springs to reflect the weight of the engine The saloon & Tourer versions have different Rear springs & then the Tourers also have the self-levelling springs option...... & all those options are different between the Rover & the MG. My personal opinion about the front springs is that they're becoming brittle with age & are now likely to fail. When one breaks, the other one will be due for it too.! I'd respectfully suggest that when you replace a broken spring, you not only replace the pair together but also replace the shock absorbers AND the top-mountings as they're all the same age as the car & if any of those other parts fail you'll have to do the whole job over again to change these other parts It's more expense on parts but no extra labour to do the job itself & is a genuine 'fit & forget' solution to the problem which should be good for another 20 years......! |

They also break when the "paint" covering comes apart and rust sets in, usually nearer to the ends.
