More sad News. Norton Motorcycles in Administration

Very disappointing to see this tonight. ~

End of Norton Motorcycles.

Hopefully someone will come and save them, if not it’s another icon that will be gone forever.

Maybe time for a reformed NVT with Triumph saviour John Bloor at the helm?

Not good news!

but not a supprise either, motorbikes in general are no longer popular.

macafee2 29th January 2020 22:46

Not good news, hope somebody saves them.

My last Norton was one of the very first Dominator 55's with a wide line featherbed frame sold in the UK.

The featherbed frame models were available for export only until the first of January 1954 mine was registered on the 1st of January still have the original brown log book somewhere the reg number was KFU224.

Wish I still had it now, guess it would be worth quite a bit.

I know the feeling well John if I still had half the bikes I used to have they would be worth a small fortune now.
But like you I really enjoyed having them.

Had one of the original 1938 Triumph speed twins, a couple of very nice Tritons one with a very highly tuned 800cc pre unit engine , a Suzuki T20, Kawasaki S1, a couple of Tiger cubs, BSA B25 Gold Star and a host of others.

Spent my bike days in Redcar with the lads from the Ritz cafe, did many thousands of miles would think nothing of setting off for Blackpool, Morecambe get fish and chips then head back, those were the days

Ah, yes, The Ritz cafe on The Esplanade. Fondly remembered, mainly due to a very rainy Sunday morning, when we were cabined up in the Ritz passing time.
A few of us had bought cod from one of the boats.
A little bit of friendly banter got a little out of hand, and the next thing was the combatants were whacking each other with the cods. Quite a sight, fish are not the strongest weapons and soon break up, so we all got a portion of cod as the pieces flew all over the cafe.

Please, no comments, battered cod, flying fish etc, heard them all, honest.

My dalliances with British bikes were limited to a Royal Enfield Continental GT, and a Velocette Venom.......both of which were sold at what today's prices would be considered buttons :o

I followed this with a Stan Stephens tuned Suzuki RG500 Gamma :drool4: which I sadly dropped coming back from Kendal over Hartside pass, then replaced by a FZR1000 Exup.

I've not had a bike in over twenty years, as Mrs MB makes for a poor pillion, but none of the bikes I had were quite as oily as the Enfield :getmecoat:

Sometimes on a warm sunny day I still hanker for something with less than four wheels though....sad to hear of the HMRC being the final nail in the coffin for Norton :(

Brian :D
