Default Clutch Judder after driving through water?

Hi All,

Last night I came home in torrential rain and was forced to drive through a lake in the middle of the road, unfortunately the pratt in front of me decided to stop in the middle of the puddle, which ment I had to dip the clutch

On release, I noticed the car juddered and then juddered most of the way home.

This morning, all seems to be right, no judder so I assume the water that got in, if thats what happened, has dissipated.

My question is, isnt the housing a sealed unit? so how would water cause the judder in the first place? and if it sealed, do I have an issue that needs looking at?

Thanks
Simon

Well guess what??

Andy

P.S Nar if it's ok this morning dont' sweat it bud - your not the first to drive through a big puddle!!

See how they carefully placed one higher than the other to let the air out as the water came in??

So they made sure the water could reach far enough in to get picked up by the flywheel/clutch and thrown all over the inside of the bellhousing!!

Mind you if you could rig up a detergent injector it would proably work just like your dishwasher at home !! - do it on a properly hot engine/box it would even be a "hot wash"

One way of cleaning it all out pre a clutch change though!!

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Yur MAD both of you!!

At least I was being semi-sensible!!

You could shift a lot of muck out of the bell housing that way before a clutch job!!
