GENERIC_USERNAME'S GENERIC_PROGRESS THREAD

Well..I've finally done it! After 6 months of umm'ing and err'ing, debating which engine, what colour, what spec, what generation to get and stalking this forum relentlessly..

..I've bought one

These are pictures from the advert, I'm collecting it tomorrow.

**Update 07 May 2013**

(The pictures that were here were 'Copy & Pastes' from the original advert on Autotrader. They've since been removed and guess who didn't save them )

Very nice indeed, I do like them wheels, so much easier to clean and keep clean welcome to the 1.8 club. Lot of car for the money and pleasurable to drive in both 75 and MG form. Congrats. Bargain price too

Thanks, it's nice to know I've an active member near me as well.

I went to collect it this morning. I spent the drive home grinning like a lunatic. It does feel like a special place to be. I had my seat low and enjoyed being able to effortlessly travel at speed.

I'm at that horrible stage where I'm just waiting for it to go wrong though. So far everything seems to be A-OK.

There's a few bits and pieces I can see need doing (all cosmetic). I'm posting pictures and queries in my Q+A thread (I'm aware only registered members can post in this section)

When I start getting results, I'll start updating this thread.

Welcome to the forum! Looks a lovely car! Love the wheels in particular. I hope you have years of happy motoring in her! They rarely go wrong, so don't be too concerned on that front, and the beauty of the K'er is they are easy to work on, and parts are relatively cheap!!

It may be of note to you that Rimmer Brothers are currently clearing the xpower sideskirts at a massive discount, see the links below:

RH - http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-DDJ000400LML
LH - http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-DDJ000410LML

I recently put some on my 75 and they look the mustard IMHO, will never understand why the ZT's didn't have them as standard. They are a direct fit, so little faffing around.

Thanks for that, I'll add them to my ''plans'' list. They're a very good price actually.

JOB # 1

Headlight restoration

The headlights were both severely crazed.

Drivers side:

Passengers side:

I tried to tackle this with 10 kilos of elbow grease + T-Cut/ Perspex Cleaner / Meguiars scratch compound.

Frustratingly, it did initially appear to work. I worked into the night and the change in light levels was the cause of this. The Morning after saw the lights look essentially unchanged.

I did 20 minutes of Googling this problem and decided to sand them back.

This was my method:

3 x 5 minute horizontal strokes with 600 Wet & Dry.

3 x 5 minute vertical strokes with 800 Wet & Dry.

3 x 5 minute horizontal strokes with 1200 Wet & Dry.

(Different directions to check the previous layer is being brought out)

2 x 2 minute polishes with T-Cut.
1 x 2 minute polishing with Perspex Abrasive Cleaner.
1 x 2 minute AutoGlym polish.
1 x 2 minute polish with Meguiars Scratch X remover.
1 x 1 minute wax and buff.

1) During the sanding process.

2) Drivers side complete

3)End result was both of them looking like the above

It worked
