Default Good Vibrations

Vibrations around 1800 and while under acceleration.... (ZTT CDTi, but think it's a common occurrence on the diesels)

Car done this for a while, changed rod assembly and it's like a new car!. Expect to pay around £35/40 and do it yourself. 10 minutes easy and is only 2 bolts.

As you can see, it's a bit past it.

Part No: KKH101402 (Rod Assembly - Lower Tie)

Part readily available, wasn't in stock but was here in 2 days. If anyone needs a "how to" I'll get it back onto the ramps and take some photos but it really is simple.

Is that the noise which sounds a bit like a load of knitting needles being shaken around in a box for a few seconds?

I get that under acceleration at around 1800-2000rpm, although only every now and then. Horrible noise though!

Also, do you have a link to the place you bought it? thanks

Thumbs up

http://www.davidbryson.co.uk/contact...d=contact%20us there you go. Garage based in Prestwick, Ayrshire.

More like a buzzing/vibration through the cabin rather than a noise, a noise like your describing sounds more like something loose. But check this out aswell as it may be connected, other thing is that when this goes theres more stress put on the flexi of the exhaust.
Have you checked your panel covering the sump etc?, mine was missing when I bought it but the plastic used to rattle off the frame casing a heck of a noise, just cable tied that tight.
Hope that's a bit of help for you.

Just another thought, check your engine covers on tight enough!.

A quick photographic 'how to do' would be nice with this

Thanks for the advice too. Come to think of it I've only had one of the noises since I changed the air filter. Back 2 screws definately took, maybe engine cover needs to be re housed.

WeeMan, weren't you involved in a similar thread a few weeks back. IIRC this part was getting the blame for the engine's "death rattle" when switching off. I really need to check mine as I think this is possibly the cause.

me too. This could be exactly the problem I've been experiencing. I've done the BCU and tightened every conceivable bolt but still from low down acceleration I get this rattle through the cabin that resembles a twin prop plane taking off!

Is this an engine mount, and where is its location?

I'll probably do this anyway as 120k miles and 70k with a ron box means my unit has probably 'freed' up quite a bit.

I also get a shut down rattle which I think has always been there but maybe I've just got used to it.

EDIT: Just got one from Rimmer Bros

This engine mount which WeeMan is reffering to is the rear lower one AFAIK. That shut down rattle really spoils the image of the car. An excellent reason to get it sorted IMHO.

Well done that man. This could explain many a complaint about vibration and clunking under acceleration and deceleration as well.

Ron
