Arrow The Lion Inn Run - July 2015

For the third consecutive year, we're aiming to meet at THE LION INN, BLAKEY RIDGE YO62 7LQ on the much earlier date of 12th July.

I've re-christened it The Lion Inn Run, as everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the convoy over the Moors (video courtesy of our own Seven Spielburg!) - AND it will also differentiate the day from the regular trips up there by Club members.
Phil (Gatekeeper) and Jessica will be back in the UK, and they are arranging to stay in North Yorkshire for a few nights over this particular weekend, so it's an opportunity to renew old friendships - and hopefully make some new ones.
The details are:
  • Date: SUNDAY 12th JULY - lunch is booked for 2.30pm
  • There is no need to pre-order any food - menus can be seen HERE
I suggest we follow the same pattern as in previous years:
  • Meet at the layby at the top of Birk Brow, on the A171 just outside Guisborough (postcode TS12 3LD) at noon
  • Convoy across the Moors, via Castleton, to The Lion - plenty of time for a drink, a chat, photo opportunities etc. before lunch at 2.30pm
I’ve make a booking for lunch now for around 24 people – The Inn have said I can confirm precise numbers a week before, but it would be useful to have an early indication of how many are interested.

For those who have never been to The Lion, it is a 16th Century moortop inn, with stunning views across the North Yorks Moors to Farndale & Rosedale. The number of mini meets which members have had there in the past 6 months or so is testament to the quality (and quantity) of the food. The drive across the Moors from Guisborough is pretty spectacular too!

Whilst I've posted this in the North East Section, we'd love to see friends from any compass direction too, hence I've posted copies of this in the North West and Yorkshire sections. We'd also be utterly delighted if some of the Southern Members made a trip 'oop North' - you will not be disappointed
PLEASE COULD NAMES BE ADDED VIA THIS NORTH EAST SECTION NOTICE ONLY - thanks!

THE LIST:

Gatekeeper + SWMBO
Reworht + SWMBO
bigd + SWMBO
Bluejon + Silvervixen
Fusilier + SWMBO
NigelOBB + SWMBO
smeegol + SWMBO (possibly plus 2 kids?)
v-man
Bri + SWMBO
davidpeter (that's two people)
suzublu (probable - not eating)
Marvinsmom (Jo & Kerry)
2diesels + two

Please be aware that this meet is not an official 75 & ZT Owners' Club meet and as such is not covered by the Club's public liability insurance. Also the Owners' Club take no responsibility for the meet in any way.

I see the pub does rooms. Think I might book for a few days either side of the meet. Will confirm in the next few days.

If you can confirm Gretna being the week after then I'll make it a weeks holiday.

Thanks Rod for doing this and for booking the table. It will be lovely seeing you and Angela, all of our old friends again. Everyone is welcomed The views are simply beautiful, a photographers paradise...

For the convoy drive, I am planning to take 2 cameras, but would ask whoever takes point and leads, if they can video the cars arriving at The Lion or passing one of the lay-by's along the way. I will be taking the rear

G'day to you Bob. A pleasure to see you make it even though it is a big drive. You would be lucky to get a room at the Lion as it gets booked up by the ramblers. Its best to ring the pub as soon as you can to secure the room

This year we have booked a cottage in the village of Castleton through a site called AirBnb for less than what we paid last year at a B&B. They also do rooms in locals homes. The cottage is old world and is opposite a village pub, just a thought if the Lion is booked up.
