New K-series Cylinder Head
How'do Folks
I'm getting there r.e acquiring all the parts i need to get my Car back on the road proper she still runs and drives better than most on the road but she is not in use. I've still a few bits to acquire - Gaskets, Bolts....etc... not too much now tho I received a Brand New replacement Cylinder Head complete with Valves today there are a couple of small marks on the block mating surface should i be concerned about these ? not sure what these 2 marks are but they are not pitted Paul. |

I’ve bought a few of these landrover boxed heads. Can tell by the green wrapping. The groove marks if there is any depression on them I would not accept as it runs where the elastomer of the gasket sits. The dimples may just be hardness QA check and from what I can see are not detrimental to the gasket seal. I still have a spare head and can have look see, but I think the grooves (if deep) do not look good at the end of the day, are you able to return to supplier?

I would not be concerned.
But I would not use the elastomer gasket either. Assemble with the uprated gasket.

I only use the elastomer, I’m not a fan of the MLS version although I’ve never tried the N series kit yet

my initial instinct was the 3 areas with pitted dimples would not cause an issue due to location.
the dark lines i pointed out with thumb and forefinger are just visual also the machining marks are just visual - the surface is Good aside from the 3 areas on the outside edge the car has an Elastomer Gasket fitted - so i'll be looking to use Elastomer again - probably the Payen Blue Elastomer Gasket (forget the part number). I'm replacing the Cylinder Head due to Suspected Valve damage - after the tensioner failed allowing the timing belt to slip and jump a tooth or few out of alignment while trying to determine the damage i thought i had realigned the timing marks correctly .... i hadn't and again while on a test drive i had a major timing issue....CONTACT ..... not a nice sound. I got the timing/tension spot on at the side of the road and drove home 70 odd miles (i think) with no issues - currently the car still runs and drives and surprisingly well considering (although not in use ) the "Special K" impresses me more and more with time she deserves a new Cylinder Head even if she doesn't need it ....and the deal i got on this made it potentially cheaper than valve replacement hmmmm.....getting all the parts i have fitted will be another story Paul. |

Paul, we have had a copy of the BW750 made - with all the strengthening of the later designs too. The best part? It's about 1/3 of the cost, and fast approaching 1,000 sold so far in just under a year with no issues reported.
Safe to say, they keep us busy! Just the gasket: https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...omer-lvb000320 As part of a kit, suitable for the 75/ZT 1.8/1.8T (with standard inlet) : https://www.dmgrs.co.uk/collections/...t-set-full-kit Definitely worth a look. I'm sure plenty of others on here have used them

How'do Mat I was just looking at your kit I was going to contact you to confirm what type Gasket as one image of the Gasket shows the older type without the additions to the Elastomer - and the other image shows the Newer type. if it is the Newer design i will definitely consider it this may even be the type Gasket I have fitted currently as it was part of a kit bought from yourself after HGF I need a full kit, bolts etc.. and a few other wee gaskets, dipstick tube etc.. it'll be a week or so before i can make an order - this kit looks like a potential winner tho do the Higher Tensile Bolts require the upgraded Oil Rail to be fitted ? Paul. |
