Default Fuel Problem

I have noticed in the last few weeks my fuel usage has gone up alot more without the milage, in comparison i usualy get around 500+ to a tank and now i'm getting around 375 ish performance hasn't changed and all is running ok but i have noticed a faint diesel smell if i have been driving "with spirit"...can't see any obvious leaks...does anyone have any idea to my problem?

Just to fill in its a y2k diesel 128k synergy2, egr bypass, performance filter, and airbox mod.

any help or suggestions would be welcome

Try to get the car up on a ramp so you can have a good look underneath, it seems you have a leaky pipe joint somewhere..

Also check;_ in the boot for leaks on the right hand side near the filler pipe. And under the rear seat (behind the driver) if it smells there take the cover you can see off ,and check that the tank cover underneath is done up tight. (It screws on.)

check under the top engine cover around the injectors could be the copper injector seals ,very common fault you may find alot of carbon deposits there if so replace the copper washers if you can get the injectors out

if you need further help pm me and i will try to help you

Also check around the high pressure pump (Tucked in by alternator/Power steering bottle ) Mine developed a leaking seal and was spraying a fine mist of diesel around the engine bay.

ok at last i have time and weather on my side to have a good search round and i have now found the area and i think source of the leak...please see attached pics

http://s804.photobucket.com/albums/y...tef_uk_photos/

A, when i started the engine up to see if it would leak oil came out of this bolt hole...is this normal?

B, this is where i think the leak is coming from as is was wet/moist around this pipe?

C, this is where the derv was collecting...maybe a teaspoon full but i presume the heat of the engine would be burning it off as i drive?

so dumb questions now follow

what is pipe B? will simply getting a spanner on it fix it?(i have tried and it moved a little)

if not how can i fix it and is this dangerous to my health ie under bonnet fires etc?

thx for any help... steve

That's an injector pipe, try nipping the pipe nut but don't overtighten it also might be worth checking it for cracks

well i nipped the pipe and still had fuel smell but a reduced amount but is now smell free, i presume it was the resedue burning off...so all sorted.
