did i do it right ?
I decided my 75 was a good girl so she would get a service
i done the oil i put 10/40 semi synth in, was gonna put fully synth but guy in store told me i was better with the 10/40 semi (it was cheaper so i belived him why would he lose the 20 quid extra the oil was) he said thats what the book told him was he right or would fully syth be better? done the rest everything went fine till the coolant i bought the red stuff with oat. first i undid the pipe from bottom of rad let the nasty smelling rusty looking stuff all flow out jack car up on one side then the other to get as much out as i could then redid the pipe. i unbolted the coolant tank and top pipe and lifted it up and undid the screw on the pipe next too the air box and i put in 3.5 litres of oat coolant and then got about 2 litres of water in but it started coming out the screw hole next to the air box so i stopped put it all back together and everything looks fine and the car runs fine but when i add it up thats only about 5 litres of coolant in the car i thought it held over 7 have i done something wrong the car runs fine and the tempo gauge has never went past the halfway mark on the dash but sometimes when i get out the car i can feel the heat from the engine this is the biggest car/engine i ever owned and its so more complicated than the calibra/escort.fiesta i have had the past should i be worried??? |

5L sounds about right, you may not get a complete drain from removing a pipe. What I would have done is filled her with clean ater > run till the stat opens > drain > fill her again > run till stat opens > drain, to wash out the nasty smelly rusty stuff, if I did not like the look of it too much, but that is just me.
I admire what you have done to the old girl, and the time you have spent pro actively caring and getting her on the road, Nice one. So how much have you spent in total, and how do you feel about the 75 compared to the £4k you were going to spend on a 330 was it I think ?

well when i got her she failed mot on rear bush on front wishbone 4 tyres and all discs and pads i fixed all of this and put a set of 18's with brand new tyres on as well as a cold air feed k and n induction kit as well as full leather and proper rover 75 fog lights as well as a good mp3 headunit and top notch speakers and full service as i wrote above thats all i can think i have done atm to buy the car and mot (incluiding parts) and tax it came to 1030 ( that includes 18's that had 2 new tyres and i had 2 new spare 18's that were for my calibra) on top of that i spent about 100 quid on service parts and i got the leather and the rear hub (hub was needed to fix abs fault) from a scrapies for 100 i had the head unit speakers lying around as well as 2 18inch tyres and the cold air feed induction kit my insurance was 590 fully comp so i reckon the car as it sits leggaly to drive on the road cost me less than 2 grand and i very much dout that i could get a 75 looking as good or in as good condition for less than 2 grand and its just as fast, comfortable and good looking as a 4 grand 530 or 330 i think i made the right choice plenty of people actually think its a jag as i have removed teh badges and the front grill is painted black i will defo get pics up tomorrow
