I was having a look around on some of the older "how to's" and came across an older version of this modification.
This how to shows that you dont have to remove the back seats for those members who want to do this modification but are a bit frightened in doing so. You have to cut a little bit of unseen carpet away but it seems a much simpler approach to this modification

I'v just done mine and I didn't have to take the back seat out just lift the front a little so you can get your hand in to get the carpet out not a bad job to all in all took about 20 mins on my own and taking my time

That link only shows you how to change the front cable not the compensator which is the trouble the cables are ok and do not stretch even if you could force the compensator forward more you would not be able to release the rear cables to fit the modified one.

Compensator need to be sent back for the mod to work for all
Quote:
Very good question i started the modification to benefit all members so gradually put together 12 compensators some i bought brand new some donated by very kind members others from scrap yards on the understanding that these would be sent back asap so this mod can carry on i have now come to a stand still as all modified compensators are out some now for over 3wks some some 2wks i have all faith they will be returned once fitted but in the furture i will have to put a time limit on them as this is not fair to those whom are waiting and willing or able to do the mod within a week of receiving them because to replace them it cost £27.00 with postal costs from rimmers. Now back to you question please contact me though a pm or i will you for details cheers Arctic. emails have been sent out to those members whom still have the modified compensator and not sent them back for one reason or another.

Hi Steve,
I've just completed this most excellent mod, I'm really chuffed, I now have a handbrake that works on two clicks, hurrah! A couple of things I noted when doing the job: 1 - try not to do it in the dark! 2 - cut out the section under the rear centre console as it will aid in moving the carpet. I didn't and had a bit of a job removing the 3 torx screws. 3 - an extra pair of hands works a treat with the carpet, I didn't have anyone around to help with that. Although I was temped to ask an innocent bystander if they wouldn't mind pulling on my carpet, I did however think better of it. I'll be getting this back into the post tomorrow, apologies it's taken slightly longer than I thought although a weeks turn around isn't at all bad. Big Bobs BIG Thanks |

I did mine yesterday, handbrake works on 4 clicks so I guess I need to adjust the drums. Why do I do these things in winter.
And I agree with the above post. Sent my compensator this morning. Thanks Artic.

great to hear you managed to do the mod if you have set the handbrake nut at the golden 25mm and it is on 4 clicks you may need to adjust at both rear drums of move the nut up to 27/28mm a personal choice Arctic
