Remove the fuel tank strap
I want to remove the fuel tank strap to protect it from rust before in breaks.
I think it is one strap not two is that right? I can see the rear bolts but not got under the car enough to see the front ones. Are these easy to get to? Is it just two bolts at the rear and two at the front to remove the strap? What about the heat sheild, does anything need to happen to that? Once the 4 bolts are out, can the strap be removed or does the exhaust need to be parted? The tank is about 1/4 full so thought it was worth supporting the tank and removing the strap now thank you macafee2 |

Thanks T-cut, with that big hump in the middle will the strap come off without parting the exhaust?

It can't be removed without dismantling the exhaust.
I had the one on the missus's diesel dropped down whilst replacing the rear brake pipes a few years back and treated it then to a coat of Hamerite. When I carried out my full suspension overhaul last year I removed it completely and sandblasted it and re painted it. |

As an amount of interest, how easy is it to part the exhaust to take the strap off?

This may be a daft Q as I have not been under to look yet but what purpose does the piece that connects the two straps serve? Seems pointless. Could it not just be cut out and two separate straps refitted

I'm kind of hoping that to, but I'm going to clean mine up and reinforce each side with some of that ratchet hold down strapping cut to length.
