Default what is Rave?

I have seen a couple of threads where people refer to Rave and not the "party" type either. I assume it is a manual or a web site.

can anyone offer a link to it?

thanks

Depends who you ask. When sitting around a camp fire having fermented yaks milk I onced asked Conan

"Conan, what is Rave?"

Conan said "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of zeir vimen!"

It's the most pirated technical manual CD in the Universe. It was distributed to MG Rover service depots and specialists. Car owners had to do with Haynes. But the hunger for knowledge was instiable. So, thousands of eBay sellers got rich selling RAVE copies to people like us and we all learned how these cars actually tick. And then, when eBay changed their rules on software, so supply stopped and the pirates all left these shores and emigrated to Monaco. More latterly, Xpart/Rimmer (the owners) published an extracted version of RAVE as a stupidly organised softback tome costing around £50. Plenty of fools like me bought one, but most enthusiasts kept their pirated CD. But this was only mentioned in bated breath on the forums. It wasn't done. The Rules demanded excommunication for the merest mention of RAVE, let alone posting a link to the pirate's lair. It was a Trader priviledge only to utter its words in public. That's how it was for years until Xpart reallised they'd make more money competing with the pirates than they would selling a 5 kilogram book that you hold sideways to read. And so time has passed, and now the RAVE CD is available to all for a mere tenner a shot. A whole tenner? - you protest. There are places selling RAVE disks for a third of that and less.

And if I wrack by brains, I'll tell you what 'RAVE' actually stands for.

Yes , I can't understand the self harming mentality of people who bailed the Rover group out, involuntarily courtesy of the Labour Party (Blair), that gave the sniveling four who sold the remnants to the Peoples Republic of China (Communists) for the cost of a three course Chinese meal, and then who legged it with a very handsome pension and payoff each.

Money well spent then.

You had people on here actually banging on about intellectual property rights, defending these spivs, while the self harmers /haters themselves were the owners of said property rights.

So if anyone can illustrate how much of their pilfered tax in the form of a refund they got, if any when the Rover group was sold, I would like to see it.

Until then ,the British taxpayer is the owner of all intellectual property rights, and a such has no need to seek permission from any source, to use that which they have already paid for, and there fore already own.

That's T-cut that explains why its "so cheap" on Rimmers web site
but it also says designed to work on Windows XP and Vista. Does you know if it will work with windows 7 and 8?

If pirating is out, what about loaning? Cant recall a dvd or video saying it cant be loaned out.

I've got the new rave disk from Rimmers and it works perfectly on Windows 10, so should be ok on Windows 7... Windows 8, well that's another story - it will work on that as well lol

It should be fine on all supported Windows versions and with XP. It's only a set of PDFs anyway. I guess they've also fixed the April 2004 or whatever use-by date that made the Cap'n Rave disks a bit tedious.

There is also the official 'Repair Information Manual' CD that was available from MGR dealers (which is often found copied on e-bay).
When opened on a PC, it comes up as 'RAVE'.

I dare say you can find the Phoenix accounts if you look hard enough.
