Default Cdti diesel leak any common areas to start looking?

My Tourer has developed a smallish diesel leak which is evident from a rainbow coloured patch trail coming from my driveway and going down the road

Are there any areas to start looking?

The car smells fuelly from the front end although looking under the bonnet doesn't show any obvious faults

The fuel cooler behind the rear O/S wheel can be a cause.

Yes this would be my first port of call too.Check fuel filter / under bonnet fuel pump for movement, and their respective pipework.

Especially the flow control valve... replace it with a land rover one

The leak seems to be from cold and is only leaving rainbows in the damp/wet tarmac underneath the engine

No sign of patches underneath in the dry

Could be a few drips of power steering fluid or coolant...

If you can put the car somewhere flat and dry, put a sheet of card underneath where you think its coming from to see if you can catch any "Pure" drips to see what fluid it is... it should also give you an exact location to follow back to the source...

The other obvious one is... is it condense from the air conditioning, there are tubes towards the rear of the engine that drop the moisture that the AC pulls out of the air...

Remove the acoustic panel and check for any leaking diesel from the common rail HP pipe unions going to the injectors and the spill return lines.

Also check the pipe connections on the low pressure side as the O rings can fail.

High pressure pump (driver's side, front of engine)
Under bonnet pump (next to battery box)
Fuel filter housing and related pipework (near under bonnet pump)

Could also be a snapped T piece from the leak offs at each injector.

Took the car to a local garage today and we were unable to find the source of the leak

We were able to ascertain it is a diesel leak and that the evidence suggests its coming from the high pressure pump side of the engine

The undertray foam was saturated in diesel but no leaks emerged after 30 mins of idling can only assume it only leaks under certain conditions or temperatures

Sprinkle some talc on the area and then take the car for a blast (under load)... any leak should jeave a trail....
