Yellow engine malfunction light
A rather disconcerting problem with the Rover I think. The yellow warning light in the bottom left hand corner of the illumination panel has been flickering on very occasionally over the last few weeks. It only lasts a second or two, mainly when I'm de-accelerating in low revs, then it goes off. You could easily miss it. In fact my wife drives the car more than me and she hasn't seen it , but I've seen it out of the corner of my eye about 3 or 4 times. What could it be? Do I need a T4 check? I'm taking the car to Andi Willie on Monday for a full service, so maybe he can throw some light on the fault? Although the handbook says a diagnostic check is needed. Is it likely to be an expensive repair job? I don't notice any reduction in power or anything?

I'm sure Andy has the equipment to scan your car & will be able to rectify the fault when you take it for servicing.
There's no point in trying to guess what the problem is prior to a scan as it could be one of many things. If you have no reduction in power & no noticeable problem (apart from the light flickering), you have to assume that the car is still okay to drive until you see Andy. |

The fuel filter is known to rotate and put stress on it's electrical connections.
Check the cables/ plugs on top of the fuel filter for stress / wear /fraying if the filter is loose and rotates it will pull on these cables and geneate the fault you describe. Rotate the filter so that the connections are under no stress, then nip the fuel filter clamp up tight to stop it rotating. Well known fault on viby diesels, but not neccessarily the only one, easy enough to check though, irregardless. Snagger.

Had this on my 75 turned out the battery was on its way out , suddenly wouldn't start as a cell died, most autocentres will test it for you for free,
