Default camshaft sensor

Hi all.
My camshaft sensor has packed in on my v6.
Now the car starts up after a few turns and runs OK.
But my fuel has dropped from around 25 mpg to 21 mpg.
Would the camshaft sensor be contributing to the drop in mpg.
Both vis motors are OK and car is running fine.
Thanks all

Sorry Steve, I don't quite follow. Are you saying that you've renewed the faulty camshaft sensor and are concerned that the new one is somehow affecting fuel consumption?

Please also let us know how you are measuring mpg.

Simon

If your engine can start without the cam sensor signal, then yes fuel consumption and performance can suffer if it starts 180 degrees out - and its a fifty fifty chance every time you turn the key whether it does or not.

thanks all.

not put a new one in as yet so running on a faulty one .
well my ethos says its faulty . code says no signal from camshaft sensor .

some times will start up first turn over other times its 4 or 5 times then it starts up.
once started up runs fine with no problems.

but have noticed the mpg is the lowest I have ever seen it using the obd .
i know that its not going to be the right mpg but i use it to keep a eye on the engine. car on my short run to work and back is around 25mpg . today down to 21 mpg. vis motors are ok and car is ok so i put it down to the cam shaft sensor .
just double checking that i could be right with my line of thought.

thanks all

does the v6 have two sensors been as its a v and not a straight 4.
reason i ask is my ethos only shows a error code as been on one sensor.
but does not say which one if there is two sensors

thanks again

So at the moment you suspect an intermittent fault. I'd start by checking the integrity of the electrical connector in the camshaft sensor wiring, and remove it and clean it. I also seem to remember a thread concerning inserting a spacer in its mounting.

It only needs one Steve as both banks are directly connected by the belts.
