Default 03 Plate ZT 2LTR - SERVICE REPORT + PROBLEMS!

Well as a few of you may have noticed, ive not long had my 03 plate ZT CDTI - and ive put a few posts up on here of problems and little issues ive had it her so far.

I was recommended by a friend (Who has a 260) to take it a specialist garage in Burton On Trent for a Report of the vehicle.

I purchased the car around two months ago now with missing service history and a fare few problems. When i got the car home, i had a proper look and noticed the rear wheel had a buckle in it and was completely bald, along side a boot full of water, air bag light coming on etc etc.

Previous owner didnt want anything to do with it..... Its funny though, how it passed an MOT with flying colours and no advisories !

I arrived at the specialist garage and the chap had a good look over it, straight away he noticed 2 or 3 things which would fail an MOT.

Its a 2 ltr diesel with 113BHP and had the XPOWER 135BHP put on it apparently when it was new, i told him it felt quite sluggish when pulling off.

He noticed the O rings on the pipe had come off, one must of popped off and the other had expanded to twice the size and was half way round the middle of the pipe lol !

One of the fuel pumps has gone which sounds pretty costly and one the rear suspension springs have cracked! He also noticed its been fitted with a new clutch pretty recently.

The guy himself is faultless and is full of information, cant praise him enough for all the help he gave me. After about 4 hours of checking over the car he gave me a report of the problems:

*SRS LIGHT ON
*HAND BRAKE GRIP LOOSE
*N.S.F KICK STRIP ADRIFT
*N.S.F ANTI ROLL BAR DROP LINK GAITER TORN
*ENGINE LOWER STEADY BAR BUSH BEGINNING TO CRACK
*O.S.R ROAD SPRING BROKEN
*EXHAUST BACK BOX BEGINNING TO BLOW
*SURFACE CORROSION ON BRAKE PIPES
*REAR FUEL PUMP FAILED
*INTERCOOLER O RINGS BLOWN OUT
*UNDERTRAY SCREWS MISSING
*BRAKE PADS NEED REPLACING

The cars booked in and having the spring and pump fitted next week, i was hesitating to keep her or not, but ive decided to keep her and it will be my little project of getting her back up to scratch!

Just thought ide keep you updated !

Cheers all

Sorry to hear of the problems and hope you get it sorted soon. With regard to Mot the o/s/r spring would fail an mot but it is almost impossible to see the lower end of the spring with the wheel on, airbag light and antiroll bar drop link gaitor would be advises.

I seem to be too attached with the car to get rid of her.... i done an all round trip today of 280miles and she was a dream, pulls much better now the O rings are replaced, jill be even more happier once the pumps replaced.

I've heard now that the Air bag light is in fact an MOT failure?!

Not quite yet I think.

It's a new item for the 2012 Test regs, but there is a delay in bringing them in fully, I believe.

The 'bedding-in' period has been extended to 'some date later in the year.'

The MOT regs changes are a mess this year.

to be fair to the mot tester ,your guy was looking over the car for 4 hours so would of seem things in more detail. the air bag light was could of been put up if the seller cleaned the car before selling .as often when hoovering under the seat you knock the connectors . all the other points are just things that a car of that age could have .some cars indeed will have alot more problems .as for the spring the testers will be looking mainly for the spring to be broken ,depending on where the spring had a crack on it would be hard to see .the brake pipes on this cars are a problem on the mots .best to rub them down a bit and treat them to prevent them rusting futher .remember a car is only going to be as good as how it has been looked after .even washing a car some people take 10 mins to throw a bucket of watewr over it ,while others spend 6 hours cleaning the car to a show room spec .it seems through the car is a good runner .the very reason you need a car
