Default SPAM & LESS SPAM !!! Down to a fraction

Amazingly my Spam has suddenly gone down from 300 per week to about 10 per week !!
My ISP is PLUSNET, and looks like they are getting something right.

I did untick the CATCH ALL box in email settings about 6 months ago, maybe a delayed effect, or maybe something more serious has stopped SPAMMERS in the last 2 weeks.

Anyone any thoughts or similar experience?

Well Ive embarked on a one man attack on Yahoo spammers, and to date my hit rate is 100%. On average 2 yahoo email accounts a day are being terminated as a result.

Small drop in the ocean, but every little helps.....

Greeners

Could you explain in non technical language how you have achieved your success against spammers? Have you actually terminated them or just blocked them?

In spite of regular blocking I am still receiving about 20 per day. Any help would be appreciated.

This will only work for a yahoo email address (only because I haven't found email addresses for other ISP's)

Assuming your using Microsoft Otllok.

Left click the message in the inbox and select options from the drop down menu

At the bottom you'll see a box marked "internet headers". Click in that box then either do a "Ctrl" and "A" or using the mouse select all, when it's all highlighted do a copy or "Ctrl" & "C"

Then click on the message and hit the forward button

In the space at the top of the message body, paste in the internet headers (OR Ctrl & V)

then send it to [email protected].

About 3 days later, you'll get a reply telling you what action they've taken.

It will work for any yahoo email account, .com.co.uk, .fr and so on.

I suspect what Greeners has done is to take active spam blocking, via adding in text such as 'DELETETHIS' into the email address which stops automated spamming dead in its tracks (which is what a large quantity of it is).

Options for dealing with spam are dependant on the way you receive email. If it is through a web-based system your options are limited to what the website provider offers.

Personally, I cannot stand web-based mail systems!

However, if you use a mail client such as Outlook/Outlook Express/Windows Mail then you can install software such as N0rt0n AntiSpam, which works to some level, but is not entirely effective (but that is true of any "artificaially inteligent" spam-blocking software, as if it were truely effective, you'd never get any emails).

As to the OP, I bet his Internet Service Provider (ISP) has added some spam blocking software to their servers, and he is using a Client (not web) to retrieve email. My ISP did something simillar (they sent an email to say so and showed you a web address of were to go if you want to turn the feature off (if ever you did!)). It worked great at first, but once again - over time - there's the deluge of spam comming in once more.

Its unusual for an ISP not to have a spam reporting email (be it simply a service so they can deal with the offender where possible, or an address that you send the offending mail to so they can add it to their filtering software on the server).

Well I had a growing list of 500 Headers to report to my ISP!!!!!!
Just never got round to it.
Well looks like someone else has dealt with the Spammers for me

BTW it's all of my 7 email addresses including Bigfoot accounts that are now SPAM free, and it's nothing I've done.
There must be some new legislation or some very clever content word searches that are stopping the SPAMMERS this end.

I've been SPAM free now for 2 weeks so (touch real wood dash!!) hope it will stay that way.

I used to have a spam problem until I started using a program called mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/). With this I can read emails from my mail server without downloading them to outlook etc. and I can add senders as friends, delete mails at the server, or bounce them so that it appears there is no such email address. After a short period of accepting bouncing & deleting the spam comes through now maybe once a fortnight. It has made managing emails so much easier & I can delete things that I might like to receive before they clutter up my inbox. For example I get mail from ebuyer & 7dayshop which I am interested in reading but don't want to download to outlook.
