Rear registration light...
Good night all! hope you are all doing right...
I went to change the bulb on the rear registration plate (left bulb) and found that for some reason it didn't work, so I took it apart and flipped the bulb around, and again nothing. I checked the contacts with the multimeter and no voltage whatsoever :S Strange, as the right hand bulb is working fine. I checked the wiring just inside the boot lid panel and everything seemed in order, again still stumped as to why it wasn't working I came on here and learn't about canbus, but the thing is the bulb warning light hasn't come on and the bulb I took out had quite catastrophically blown out (but now i think it may have been some kind of impact (but there is no outer damage!?) that has written the bulb off as the glass was jet black, came away from one of the contacts and was cracked quite badly (still mostly in one piece!). I found out there is no fuse (as far as I know) so I don't know why it is not working? Has anybody got any clues to where I can look as I want all my lights working perfectly as I don't get pulled and told of or worse fined! I have replaced the bulb with what I believe is a canbus compatible bulb, but didn't think it really would matter as I don't think the car would not switch the bulb on if it was not compatible anyway! Any help as usual would be much appreciated, I hope I can sort this car out as soon as possible and try and get on top of the faults (as the car at the moment has got on top of me :s) P.S: I am not sure when it failed, but I guess it has been like that for quite a while???!

My guess would be corroded spade connectors on the numberplate light PCB. Sometimes the traces on the board also corrode away. Easy fix either way. Clean up corrosion and solder spades on or use insulated wire to bridge the broken PCB traces.
How to remove and service the light unit here: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthrea...mberplate+lamp TC Edit: OhOh, so slow, wrong forum - but same thing. Last edited by T-Cut; 2nd December 2014 at 19:19.. |
