Default Rover 75 Prototype Fiat engine

Well after not touching our Prototype 75 for nearly 12 months due to massive work load last year we decided we should start work on it!
So on Monday we got it into the workshop and started. The ECU was submerged in water so we didn't hold out much hope and due to it being a one off ECU with prototype stickers all over it it was very much squeaky bum time! but after two days of drying out it seemed ok.
The wiring for the main engine loom had been joined not very well so we cut it all back and started and again. The speedo had wires missing and damaged connections so again we sorted them out. We put a new battery on it and it turned over and fired. Its been running fine now in the workshop for well over a hour! We cannot put into words how made up we are to have this amazing piece of Mg Rover history running in our workshop!
It looks like the car will making it to POL this year!

The car is a genuine prototype from the Longbridge factory, Mg Rover were looking at changing the diesel engined 75 for a cheaper alternative as i believe BMW were charging them to much. This prototype has a Fiat 1.9 JTD engine fitted which I belive Mg Rover were testing before they went bust. If you would like any more info buddy let me know or just type Fiat engined 75 in on Google and there is more info on there

Thanks for the heads up!
Makes sense that MG-R would want to move away from an expensive supplier.
Does the ECU remotely resemble MEMS3 or is it something entirely different?

These 1.9 diesels remap well. From 150 bhp to around 200 bhp ish. Could be fun

How well does the Italian electrics talk to British / German electrics? Who translates?

Well we could have had the fun of DPF issues - with this what if.

Was there more than one Fiat engined car? There used to be one in Barrow. Brilliant engine but I believe communication issues? Can't remember it used T4 or Examiner. Nice car
