KV6 PAS pump RIP?? **Resolved**
Hi all,
Feeling pretty gutted at the moment. I have spend a lot of time this winter doing necessary maintenance to my 2.0V6 to make it ready for this summer. New timing belts, brake overhaul++++ I have done a 300mile roundtrip this weekend and I have enjoyed every minute in this lovely car with the right spec and its mint condition. Right after arrival home, I noticed some oil dripping under the car and the smell of DXIII fluid. The power assisted steering pump had also developed a noticeable whine and the fluid leak comes from the top of the engine. I guess that the diagnosis i quite clear - a faulty PAS pump It typical to me that this happens with a long-life item at a mileage at only 59000miles... So no this car is parked up again So before I starts hunting for an used PAS pump, is there anything else I should check, or could the issue be some other place? I think an oil leak in the PAS system only would not generate the high pitch whine? P.S. There is plenty of fluid in the reservoir, so the leak is not major. I have noticed that my 1.8 is lighter on the steering wheel than this V6, even if they have the same tire dimension on both. Last edited by beinet1; 18th May 2015 at 06:43.. |

The steering is lighter on the 1.8T, compared to the V6, on mine too. The V8 is worse, it is as if the pump can't follow the wheels when turning fast at parking.
Back to the pump. I am sure it is something that can be fixed and it doesn't need a new pump. I would first check all hoses and pipes for cracks, and if none are found, take the pump out and check it over. |

I will take a closer look at the pump and nearby hoses in an attempt to locate the leak, but I just feel that the pump are done. I think a leaking hose would not generate the whine as long as there is sufficient fluid in the system??
Used ones costs £80-100 over here and the shipping from the UK seems also high. It does not fit my budget at this time.... |

I would not worry about the whine for starters. It could be a lbelt maybe, oil on the pulley?
I'm sure you will see it when you get it out. |

Hi,
I removed some covers for a quick check yesterday. Seems like the leak comes from the split between the the PAS pump halves or the flanged connection on the suction side. The V of the engine is full of PAS fluid and has also leaked down on the timing belt side of the engine. I just love it!! I think I will order a second hand PAS pump from one of the scrappies in my country today, but it will cost me approx 90-100 £££££ |

Strange it is not from the hp side!
Anyway, you have to take the pump out in any case. Why not take it out and have a look before you order another?. If could be something as simple as an O-ring! |

Yes, its to much in my opinion for an used part, but thats how it is here in Norway. I have considered buying an used item from the UK, but The shipping is to expensive and adding VAT and toll charges on top of that will easily ending up on 90-100£
I have though of dismantling the pump and check it, but I do not have time for that now. Used pump is ordered and will be at my door tomorrow for the cost of £95 |

Leaking PAS pump replaced with an used unit which came from a -01 car with 120000miles on its clock, for the cos of £95!!!!
Everything working OK now. Seems like the steering wheel is a tad lighter now than before. I will take a closer look at the old pump one day and see if I can find the cause of why it failed. |

I just love it!
Out of curiosity, I quoted a couple of dealers for a recondition kit for the PAS pump and was told that this one would fit: http://steeringseals.com/400-6.html £21 and free shipping to Norway! Its to late now anyway |
