Default Arthur Daleys on fleabay !!

I was seriously having a look at THIS sounded like it needed a vis repair but otherwise pretty sound, short mot but no biggie if the description is anything to go by.. then out of curiosity thought I'd check the MOT history, seems the seller forgot to mention he'd tried to MOT it 2 weeks ago and it failed !! still might have it though

A current test certificate is valid until it expires, a subsequent failure does not affect it.

Yes that's correct but if the reasons for failure of the subsequent test aren't rectified then the vehicle isn't roadworthy anymore and is therefore illegal to drive.
The police have access to MOT records and will be able to see that a fail has been recorded

I wonder how it ended up with 16" Multispoke alloys as these were normally fitted to the Contemporary non SE model.

Also, chrome mirror covers would have normally been fitted to a Connoisseur SE

If any items are failed as dangerous the car must not be used on a public road until its repaired

Do not believe this to be the case anymore; If you present a car early for a test and it fails then it is recorded on the data base that it has failed an MOT and a Refusal Notice is issued giving the reasons why the vehicle is unroadworthy

A Vehicle that fails can only be driven to a place where the vehicle is to be stored or fixed, and can be driven to the MOT station providing it has advanced booking.

So consequently if this failed an MOT two weeks ago, then it is unroadworthy

The myth about MOT tests are legion. If it passes an MOT, it is roadworthy. If it fails an MOT, it has failed an MOT. No ifs or buts., it's failed therefore can not be used on a public road, full stop.
It's like the 14 days that you used to be allowed to tax your car. No you were not allowed any time at all. Ask a policeman

A mot pass is valid until the day it expires a failure issued before its expiry does not invalidate it. depending on what the failure is it may not fall fowl of C&U regulations. emissions are one example.
