Default 2002 mondeo 1.8 petrol

We gave this car to Sophie's nan about 3 years ago, it was immaculate when she took ownership. Never used oil, never used coolant, all the ancillaries worked perfectly. I've just been out and checked her fluid levels for her

3 LITRES OF OIL
4 LITRES OF COOLANT
No screenwash
1 headlamp bulb blown
They are all the things I have just had to put in the Blooody thing, how it hasn't blown up yet I don't know

I mean 3 litres of oil just to get it half way up the level on the dipstick, beyond belief

My daughter is the same, She never checks anything, treadless tyres are her speciality for someone that needs a car in tip top condition because they moved her place of work from 2 miles away to 38 miles away you'd think she'd make an effort.

Daft aren't they, I couldn't be like that, she says the car wasn't even sounding any different A car with no oil in sounds completely different to a car with in my experience

Let it blow up or break down on them - some people need to suffer the consequences (often repeatedly) before they'll change their ways. People are the same with computers and it's usually the same person over and over getting viruses or other junk when we have to support them.

Another couple of examples

Son's old girlfriend checked the screen wash levels when my son said have you checked the coolant level as her car was overheating.

The same girlfriend explained the lack of oil in the engine (below the minimum! ) by saying that the cars manual said she had to check it when the car was on level ground and that she lived on a hill ............- so had never checked it.......

Another girlfriend was hit from behind at a roundabout and then constantly had a flat battery every morning thereafter and needed a jump start from her Dad (not a practical man at all.) At the weekend my son removed the boot light bulb that was constantly on due to the accident. Both girlfriend and her father knew the bulb was on permanently but lacked the common sense to link this fact with the battery going flat.

Mother in Law is the same. She bought a beautiful black 2010 Bini Clubman about three years ago, one owner, full history, tan leather etc, etc. You want to see the state of it now She, or Father in Law, never checks oil, water, tyres, washer bottle etc, etc. It never gets cleaned unless I do it, there's trim hanging off, wheels are curbed and the inside looks like a dustbin.

I just don't get it!

Lots of people just aren't interested in cars. So maintenance of them isn't something that they would ever think about or interested in regardless of the amount of faff it causes them.

The memsahib checks her 75's tyre pressures every 4 weeks.

Also regularly asks me if I've checked the washer fluid, oil, lights etc. as she doesn't want to be stuck somewhere because we've not bothered to look after it properly!

We men cannot win!

To be slightly fair to her she is 81yrs old, but she insists on checking the oil when the car is parked on a kerb So it always shows oil on the dipstick, until I put it flat and left it for half an hour that is
