AAARGH! Facelift Boot Plinth
Having removed my '04 Facelift's boot plinth to fit a reversing camera, I found that the two outer lugs were broken beyond repair and had to repair one of the inner bolts with plastic metal.
Imagine my delight when I found a complete replacement, which I promptly bought and modified slightly by cutting threads on both outer lugs so that they could be bolted, rather than the original fixings. The new plinth is also a little more decorative than my original, having a flute in the top rather than it just being a flat surface. However, when I compared the two before removing the old one, the newer is about an inch shorter either end My questions are: Was anyone aware that there were different lengths? Before I go through the hassle of removing the old one, will it fit? Thanks in advance (and fingers crossed!) Ian D

Yep, mk1's are shorter than facelifts, 3 types in fact, early one's with "Rover" written on the plinth, then with a badge raised, then mk2's which are longer

I believe those are the plastic 'pins' onto which the pressed steel 'screwits' fasten? When I took my plinth off, I also broke one of the pins. So, unless you know exactly how the plinth comes off, it will be broken in the process. I've also bought a plinth from a Rover spares supplier and these pins were broken. But they can be fixed with a bit of effort.
This was mine with the broken bits. There were two screwits on it, which caused me to pull it when it wouldn't come out. To fix it, it tacked the bits into their original positions using supergloo. When that was dry, I flooded the open/hollow areas around the pin root with epoxy resin. Basically, I repeated that until the pins were part of a solid plastic mass and ten times stronger than they were. TC |

The matk 1 boot plinth will fit onto a facelift car but themark 1 plinths are shorter.
Here are two photos of the 75 I used to own which is a facelift car, the boot plinth was broken off the car by tyre fitters and at the time I was only able to locate a good condition mark 1 plinth quickly. One photo shows the facelift plinth and the other the mark 1 plinth. |
