Default Condenser radiator desiccant pack

If a desiccant pack is not fitted into the condenser radiator,
what a/effect would that have on the air con?

As recently posted Ian, the dessicant is held in the tube to the right of this picture 😎

thanks, yes I understand that. I fitted a new condenser radiator 4 years ago to my saloon and did not know about the desiccant pack.
Spoke to Rimmers earlier today and their rad comes with it fitted.
I got my rad from them August 2019 and as I say, never checked.

Default Dessicant / condenser query

The idea of the dessicant (possibly silica gel type agent to absorb moisture) is to prevent any moisture from the air that may have entered the system from either blocking the expansion device which is connected to the evaporator (cooling side) or from damaging the compressor. An aircond system that has had major component fitted like a condenser should always be evacuated from air (as air contains moisture) using a vacuum pump. An aircond system opened up should always have it’s dessicant/drier changed as the slightest amount of moisture can reap havoc!

Thank you for the replies. Having spoken to Rimmers about their condenser radiators and they come with the pack fitted and my air con
is working with a Rad fitted 4 years ago, I am guessing the desiccant was fitted to that rad when it as made and so should be fitted to this rad as I got two together.
Is there any harm in me unscrewing the stopper to check before fitting this second rad?
To avoid confusion, I bought 2 rads at the same time, one was fitted to the saloon 4 years ago and the other is on the back seat of the tourer until I am confident it is ok to fit, hence the questions.
Reading about the desiccant pack has shaken me

You want to unscrew the cap on the second/replacement rad? The only harm you could do is damage the o-rings on the cap so you may want to lube them with the correct oil when putting the cap back on the rad.

ok thanks, I'll use the same lubricant as I bought for the two O rings or the two pipes. I expect it is fitted but reading what others have said feel I need to check, fingers crossed.

I'm sure it'll already have the pack fitted - we've used various suppliers over the years, and I've never know them not come pre-fitted.
