Default SORRY ! Parking Sensors

Ok looked through a lot of threads but not sussed it yet , similar to someone else's problem last week get one long beep first time i engage reverse then nothing next time i select reverse till i switch ignition off and same process again . Anyway had loom out and checked seems fine ! my question is none of the sensors are clicking when in reverse but reversing lights are on so does failure of one sensor result in the rest not working , my plan at moment is to get a new sensor and try each one turn , does this sound my best course of action ? cheers Tam .

Hi Tammyboy..When my mech connected his laptop to my car he got the reading for all 4 sensors up on screen, so try to get someone to check yours for you, that will at least eliminate some possible causes..

Prob with mine is -- they all read OK and are working, but the pesky speaker wont bleep! In my case the indications are that the sensor/contact on the actual gear lever may be at fault.. i.e. wiggle the gear lever about and the bleeper does make the odd bleep or two..

I can also hear the sensors click faintly if I put an ear to them..

It could also be the lil black box fingy in the boot that's faulty in my case..

Scratched my head for a while with mine, wiring was ok, control unit ok all the sensors 'clicked', still not working..
This probably sounds weird but touched each sensor in turn could feel the 'vibration' of the 'clicking' but one sensor seemed weaker- changed that sensor and hey presto all working

Untape the wiring harness a few inches from the multi plug (bumper side) & there will be 2 bunches of wires with blue tape round them, peel the tape away & check the joints in the middle aren't rotten, mine were, stripped the wires back & used heat shrink connectors & taped it all back up & been spot on ever since

Regards Col

Cheers guys just been on phone internet so struggling to reply , from what i have read their seems varied reasons for this problem none of which i have discovered as yet . Can anyone say if one sensor is bust will the rest stop working also as in this case or should i be looking further back towards ecu ? Have had loom out from sensors and fixed a broken wire but still the same ! Grrr ! cheers tam.

None too sure, but I think one faulty sensor stops the whole thing from working, bit like Xmas tree light bulbs!

Colin (2Diesels) thanks for the pointer, I will endeavor to investigate said wiring spaghetti fingy..

Default I'm sorry too

I've has duff sensors for a while. Bit the bullet (for me) and took the rear bumper off. Checked the wiring below the blue tape.....all fine.
Rear sensors all making a faint clicking. Get the non stop scream of the sounder 75% of the time but other times all is fine.

Took the front n/s wheel off. No reversing switch ( Have an Auto CTD) and loads of the threads say how cheap a switch is, but few if any (I obviously missed them) say that there isn't one on an auto box.

Fuses seem fine. Disconnecting battery hasn't helped. At the impact bar behind the bumper the wiring is neatly taped up and dry and goes through the bodywork via rubber grommit that clearly keeps it in place and not chafing (I looked)

So what is it that is causing this................ it used to be 20% of the time but now it's nearing 75%

Can I access the wiring from inside the boot, if so where is best place. All connections to the ECU in the boot checked and re seated.

Bit fed up of the noise so helf for me too please.

I had a similar problem some time ago. It turned out that ONE of the sensors had failed. I had no means of checking at the time so I replaced the lot and the problem was cured.

Default Now Fixed .

Ok had another go today , took loom out and decided to strip all tape off and inspect all wires , turned out Colin was spot on in his reply earlier as soon as i stripped off blue tape from brown wire the whole lot fell apart and was left with just blue corrosion . This is probably a bumper off job for most but as my loom was out when fitting towbar it was easy enough to get loom out just by lyeing underneath car and cable ties to put back in .

Some pics of process -

HANDY SLOPE ON DRIVE .

LOOM OUT

CORROSION

HOW IT SHOULD LOOK

FIXED AND GOING BACK ON CAR
