Default Whine

I hear a whine coming from the engine bay, sorry I can't be more specific, that gets louder as engine speed increases. The whine is further aggrevated when the steering wheel is turned in either direction which makes me think it is possibly a faulty power steering pump? The whine however disappears when the engine reaches normal operating temperature...

Any guidance would be much appreciated, the model is a 1999 1.8 Club with almost 90k on the clock.

Thanks

Thanks for the response Steve, I don't think its the belt but would be interested to know how common steering problems are and whether the rack or the pump is the most common failure?

No sorry, it went completely out of my head when I was there. Mine does it when accelerating say turning left in first and maybe second off a roundabout.
