Lightbulb Plenum Shield Mod - Take 2

Many of you will have the excellent spyhole mod on your plenum covers, so you can easily rod the plenums to get all the crud out that builds up in there.

This got me thinking, why not stop most of it getting there in the first place?

I bought Jules' shield for the driver's side about 12 months ago and its worked a treat.

Where I live we have trees overhanging the drive and there are 2 big trees in our garden that have lots of blossom. I seem to have to clear leaves out from the scuttle panel each time I get in the car. The passenger side had a handful of leaves in it this morning!

So, I was in the garage and moved some boxes looking for a box of clips.

I found this, which I bought from B&M for 99p and had forgotten all about it:

This got me thinking, I could cut this to fit on the passenger side to help stop most of the build up.

Ten minutes later on and I have the finished job

Hope this is of some help to those of you that have trouble with lots of leaves.....

seems like an excellent idea, will have to do that to mine before the leaves start falling.

1 question though, is this going to eliminate the flooding issue or will the plenums still need to be "rodded"

The plenums should always be checked but this will stop a lot of leaf bebris in this area. As I say, I literally had a handful out there this morning. Water can still drain through and away as before.

Good stuff, and a handy idea. Anything to stop leaves entering on the drivers side is a bonus..

A good idea, thanks.
Now I have the spy hole mod, I was going to the DIY shop to get a pipe bender spring, to keep the the centre plenum tube clean.
I think I will pick up some of this gutter mesh at the same time.

It's Deja vu. Was this thread posted three or four years ago? I seem to recognise the Gutter Guard packet. Obviously a case of great minds think alike.

There's also Jules' plenum guard gizmo.

On my car nothing can get in from the position shown as there is a metal bulkhead between the right hand mini plenum and the main plenum that houses the ECU. ..

Yep, got one of these too, but there is also another drain in the recess I have covered. Just wanted to stop the leaves getting in.......
