I bought an Activated Carbon Pollen Filter some time ago which I have yet to fit, thanks for reminding me that I ought to fit it.

Well I think I sussed mine out,

Cleaned the inlet manifold today and fitted a new EGR blanking plate as the one I've got on mine didn't really fit 100%, but managed to get it on, yeah by putting one of the bolts on a slight bend

Changed the PCV valve even tho its a filter less type I changed it anyway for good piece of mine, as the other had collected quite a bit grim and grime and dirt.

Took it out for a test drive and no longer have the smell it seems I've cured mine.

And runs a lot better too.

after all week never smell the horrendous exaust again, so i presume it really cured by the new hose, or because of the premium fuel that i am now using...

very glad to turn on the car inside the garage...

Ricksta

Did you ever manage to solve this issue?

I have the same problem although the smell comes in to the car too.

No i never solved it unfortunately. If the smell is coming into the car check your flexi on the exhaust for any leaks,as when my flexi started blowing it would bring the smell into the car.

Well, I was considering chavving my car up too, but worked out that when you spend loads of £ on parts that really have to prove themselves to be beneficial, I decided against a de-cat, chavvy exhaust, bypass this that and the other, and thought - why not keep an eye on the few things that may affect the structural integrity of the flexi in the first place, under-tray will help to some degree, as mine already has this it must be helping things, engine mounts, well yes. These, especially the lower and easiest one to replace are usually left hanging on by a thread allowing the engine to sway too and fro, now that will really upset the flexi pipe happiness.... Nah, need to do the egr bypass first, put the chavvy box on, upgrade the music system and do all the lights possible. Everything else will be just fine "Y" or "N".......
My 75 diesel has had new exhaust sections fitted here n there, but lives on with the original cat/flexi, this is due to sensible servicing and maintenance scheduled before things go wrong. This car has been bomb-proof and happily continues to perform very well without all the chavvy mods that so many aspire to to gain further go go.
The flexi will eventually let go on mine I know, it is worth sinking some money into this after spending fortunes on stuff that maybe making things even worse, flexis leaking is not always that easy to diagnose as they dont bark or NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- the same way as other parts of exhaust systems. Another area to consider with a chavved up exhaust is - allowances for movement of the system during gear changes in relation to the engine movements. So I would suggest that when folks mess about with stuff they don't really know enough about - they are the cause of the issues they end up living with.
Thats me finished with this one for now.
