What voltage to you get across the battery terminals? I see you mention the car has been parked for a week or two. Just remembered when I first acquired my old ZTT it had a poorly battery fitted and would quickly drain to low voltage within days when unused. When the voltage dropped to being quite low, the bbus alarm would go off and the front wipers would be operating.

This probably isn't helpful in solving your problem, but if you want to learn more about the multiplexing systems on our cars, have a look at the technician videos on YouTube.
https://youtu.be/wV54uy9AO0s?si=GpW_l2Y8dKOUXL0P (overview of multiplexing starts at 6:38) https://youtu.be/0X-vywwUSvs?si=uL88hTmlGoT1aGPV (more detail on the systems)

It's a single wire linking various non-engine related equipment. The BCU (Body Control Unit) sends coded messages along this single circuit. If a poor connection occurs or if equipment controlled by it develops a fault, unpredictable and random effects result. As Matt says, the name for this system is multiplexing and as Dave says you'd be best off seeing what T4 has to say (if anything) about it.
Of course the fault might not lie with the K-bus so do try Rick's suggestion first. Simon

It's good to hear that it was a simple solution Ian. Try not to let your battery discharge again. If you're not using the car much I'd recommend investing in a smart charger which you can safely leave connected 24/7. There are many types to choose from but C-tek are particularly compact, simple to use and high quality. I use mine especially during the winter months. Simon

Hi Simon, Yes, seemed an easy fix thank goodness. I think the amount of rain has stopped me running an extension lead out to the car to keep the battery charged. Currently unable to get the car under cover. I could remove the battery again and keep it connected. I have 2 spare batteries that I keep charged. As the song goes, should have known better. macafee2 |
