My brother in law made me up a fake chrome grill just the other year using some 3mm chrome trim stuck on the grill slats. He came round to my house and gave it to me as a surprise present.
To highlight the chrome strips he sprayed the badge surround matt black as well as the grill slat sides.
He did a very good job of it and still looks good after 2 years of weathering .
A nice easy mod that looks the part😁

The twist tops don't seem to fit as I imagined on the genuine rover mats I have, which was annoying, but I hope they will hold just screwed down from the top.

Since opinion was it would be silly not to test it after having made it, I got around to testing out how my new fake grill looks - what do you think?

I love it mate. The finish is nothing less than perfect and I for one would be proud to affix that to my car.
I wish I had your creativity Tony, I really do. My old eyes couldn't cope with that kind of detail work.

It looks brilliant Tony, leave it on, be proud of your efforts. It looks better than the pattern full chrome I had on my MK1.

thanks both - I will make no rash decisions - especially since I have other concerns again. My old adversary, the powerfold mirrors are trying my patience again, only now in both cars. I am beginning to wish I never started all this
