Default Can anyone help out a fellow owner in London?

Just had a call from a fellow 75 owner who was meant to be coming down to me today to have a new ipk screen fitted. He has a 2.5v6 and his temperature gauge has started shooting up to red, coming back down, then shooting up to red again over and over. I'm not too familiar with the v6's but it sounds like a thermostat issue?

He's based in canary wharf london but can travel in and around the london area. Problem is he's meant to be driving to Holland on Saturday and now his car's playing up, so as you can imagine he's a bit stressed.

Can anyone recommend a garage in or around the london area that would be able to fit it for him, or is there anyone around the london area who could help him?

Could be the fan not working. Stuck in traffic with no airflow through the radiator and temperature shoots up. Get moving air flows through the radiator and temperature drops. This happened to me and was the only problem I had in 11 years of 75 2.5 ownership.

I have had this issue before but not with a Rover... turned out to be thermostat not opening i.e. knackered..... when car starts moving air flow cools down engine.... so new thermostat methinks.....

Get him to perform the demist test to check if his fan is working.

Dallas is correct.

A thermostat not opening would result in terminal overheating. The ‘ram effect’ of the car moving would not help. There would be no coolant flow around the circuit so the coolant would rise in temperature, the expansion tank cap would vent and eject coolant. Rapid overheating would follow. This is not what the OP has described. It won’t be the thermostat.

he's checked the fan and it works fine on both speeds, no sign of coolant leaking at the expansion tank cap. I asked him to check for any coolant in the V of the engine but hasn't got back to me about that.

If he’s savvy enough to carry out the demist and the trinary switch tests then he should be aware of the need to top up the coolant. The other possibility is an air lock.
