Default Under Bonnet Engine Bay Lighting

Here's a new service I now offer - Under bonnet engine bay lighting

Fantastic for anyone who may do some night/evening shows or meets. These also come in very handy if you just simply need to do something in the engine bay in the dark, they light up the engine bay really well

These are wired to a switch fitted to the side of the battery box so they can be switched on or off

This first installation was done for Keith (Keithst24) - another opportunity to show off his blinging engine bay

Supplied and fitted £50 for 4 underbonnet LEDs, switch and associated wiring

these look good Rick, have you considered a tilt switch? My old 740 had one fitted, which would have been a rather nice touch, had it worked lol. I have been considering one for my spare wheel well, as the lighting in the boot, is blocked when I lift the cover.

Cheers mate What's a tilt switch? Never heard of one or seen one

spare wheel lighting would be an easy one, 2 hard backed LED strip lights on the underside of the boot floor wired to the boot light would sort that

Search on the likes of maplin or ebay and you will see the various types. You may have heard of mercury tilt switches on the news about 20 years ago (or maybe not lol). Various terror groups here used to use them as triggers for booby trap bombs in cars! But they do have a legitimate purpose. As you lift the bonnet, the contact is made by a mercury (or another non toxic) ball completing the circuit.

It does mean it will be active at all times, but does mean you dont have to look for a switch in the dark. Maybe an over ride switch attach or a light sensor to over ride, for that added bit of style

That was my plan, perhaps even a strip on the circumference of the wheel well. Am just too lazy at the minute to do it lol.

They used to be full of mercury Rick and when you tilted the switch the mercury completed the contact. There are various options now, here’s one

I thought about doing this when i had my ZT - I think a Rover of old had one (800?).

I was planning on wiring it via the bonnet switch though, seemed like a massive faf adding another switch.

Then I realised that the only reason I'd be under there in the dark was because it broke again, and it was a bit depressing to think it'd break so much that a light would be really worth it...

Can these be fitted where the bonnet insulation is still in place?

Cliff
