Default something horrible just went wrong with my diesel

Car starts and idles fine, on accelerating, knocking noise from top of engine and lack of power, stuttering, just happened, 2004 diesel tourer, any ideas guys? Vaughan

Crank pulley maybe, what is the engine like when ticking over noise wise, any clackity sound like below.

No not exactly like that, I have a grating noise on reving (like the noirmal diesel rattle but louder) and if you look at this vid, the engine is vibrating, I dont know what it is, it was a sudden change If you look carefully you can see some vibration although I appreciate it looks pretty good on this vid.....but it aint :-(

Default Blowing loads of smoke too

Its gotten worse, it now has no power, juddering and blowing clouds of fumes !!!!

A bad injector can cause loud knocking.

I would tend to agree with Rick to be honest Vaughn, it sounds as if it is running on three cylinders..........the plenum is dry??

If the injectors check out then have a look at the EGR valve - unplug it and make sure it is shut and see if the engine runs OK.

Vaughan got it sorted in the end, mistakenly added petrol to his diesel, not the first time someone as done that
