Default ZT-T keeps draining it's battery very quickly

Hi all,

The ZT-T I've bought keeps draining it's battery very quickly, literally within 48 hours. The previous owner did say if left sat for a couple days it drains it's battery. I removed the satnav disc from the satnav drive in case it was that causing the drain but didn't make a difference.

This morning the alarm went off due to the battery being completely dead and the headlamp washer pump was on constant. It has the battery back up alarm system.

It has a new battery fitted, have tried 2 batteries in case it was a faulty battery causing it.

Any ideas? how can I go about finding what is causing this drain?

Cheers,
Rick

I had exact same issue.

No obvious drain on system.

But noticed battery terminal clamps were slipping on battery terminals, so rubbed down with wet and dry then reconnected the battery. No issue since. I know this doesnt sound like it would sort a battery drop issue but it worked for me so worth checking

https://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Parasitic-Battery-Drain

I followed that to find mine. In my case it was my alternator that was the parasite.

I had the same issue. I had loose battery terminals too! Plus, the cd changer kept changing the cd. Once I discon the batt for 10 mins & reconnected properly, everything was ok.

It's not enough to remove the disc from the satnav drive. Make sure it shuts down properly.

Boot open so you can see satnav drive light. turn off ignition. Do not open or close any doors boot or bonnet or touch anything electrical on the car while waiting! (that will restart the countdown as it wakes up the whole ICE system) if after 5 minutes the light is still on then you have your culprit: unplug it. A good one will usually shut down after 2 or 3 minutes.

This happened to mine last February. After much fiddling, searching, and incidentally incorrect diagnosis by no less than two local garages, (which I luckily ignored as obviously and hopelessly wrong) another member Borg Warner, thanks, recommended his garage to me.

They diagnosed it as a faulty switch panel (fog light/dimmer controls/lighting switch on the panel to the right of the steering wheel and about halfway down under the small cubby). Expensive but, fear not, if it is that fault, Marina Brian on here could have done it for a fraction! Thanks Brian, if there is a ‘next time’ you’ll be the first port of call!

Check the one way diodes at the alternator, had a car a few months back that was displaying a parasitic drain due to this, it’s easier for you to watch the YouTube clip than me type out a long in-depth explanation on a mobile phone lol

Hope that helps mate
