Refurbing wheels
Morning All
Can I ask whether this is the CPC I have seen referred to on the form? https://www.citypowdercoating.co.uk/ (when you go to the website they seem to be called City Wheel Refurbishment?) I see on yell.com there are only three reviews - 1 x 5 star, and 2 x 1 star. Has anyone used them recently? Do these guys do good work? Thanks Andrew

HI Andrew.
One and the same, yes they do very good work, I have not been disappointed, I have used then since 2010, and had quite a few sets of wheels powder coated by them. They do a one day turn round if you get there about 7.30am leave car with them, take a walk into Birmingham City and spend the day wondering around the Bull Ring, visit the https://www.birminghammuseums.org.uk/bmag. By 5.00pm your wheels should be back on your car balanced and waiting for you to travel back home, that it their most expensive package ring and ask cost 1 2 3 4 5 6 From this 7 8 To this. 9 10 11 12 13 Most recent I had done which is a post on here at the moment. 14

Raw Wheels in York do a same day service. Drop car off get bus (outside Raw Wheels into York for the day) and pick em up later. Did a nice job on mine £260 including the calipers in any colour you want.

I haven't unfortunately. Apologies. They do a shot blast and full chemical clean. The powder coat inside and outside the wheels. I'm not an expert but it was a nice job. Arrived at around 9am and picked up around 3.30 giving a nice day out in York.

I've only heard one very bad review, happened to a member on here but can't remember who it was. He had the wheels done, all looked fine etc then I think a few days later he took the car to a local car wash and the wheels really badly reacted to the soap. I don't know what they'd done wrong, forgot to add the protective coat maybe? but when the owner contacted them about the problem they basically took zero responsibility and refused to sort the issue. |

Lee the owner asked the member to take the wheels back to them so they could double check what had gone wrong the member refused if my memory is working. I personally think the car wash used some sort of extra strong cleaning liquid and it reacted to the wheels, but City never close the doors on him that's for sure.

I think they are excellent value for money. I have had two sets refurbished this year. One set of 11 spokes, and one set of straights. Both in sparkle silver.
The 11 spokes are hard to fault. The straights are not perfect but where quite badly corroded to begin with so there is only so much that be done. I dropped the wheels off one weekend, and was sent a message once completed so I could collect. £20 per wheel. I've not come across anywhere else that will strip the old finish off, perform a basic prep, and then powder coat and lacquer for that price. If I remember correctly, one of the bad reviews was from a customer that had travelled a fair distance for the one day service. Unfortunately for whatever reason they did not arrive in time so they advised the customer they could not complete. ( Obviously it wasn't physically possible to achieve in the time remaining. ) The customer felt it right to complain. Not a fair review IMHO. |

I used them a couple of years ago, I dropped off the wheels and I was told I would get a phone call when they were done. After a week I had not been called so rung and they were done and had been for several days.
They looked good and the car they were fitted to I sold about 6 months later and they still looked good. My guess at the price they are doing them at the prep is probably not the best but nobody else comes close on the price and the turnaround time. The companies near me are quoting upward of £80 a wheel and a turn around time of 2 to 3 weeks, that is fine if you have a spare set of wheels. |
