Sunroof Technicalities
Hi all, not sure if this is the correct section for this thread but it is a sort of technical question.
Here goes... I have had a water ingress problem (sunroof drains) which has now been resolved. This was done by clearing the drain tubes and sealing the joints. I tested the operation of said tubes last night by pouring water (to simulate rain) into the gap around the sunroof (with it closed) to make sure all was clear and I have disloged any blockages. This was all fine and drain tubes working well. Now, when I checked, I had water in the rear passenger footwell again... A bit of.investigation and by dropping the headlining I found that there was a leak from the sunroof casette itself. It is leaking from a white plastic box style thing onto which attaches the drain for the NSR. Now I don't know if I overdid it with the water (wanted to make sure it was fine) or that I have a problem with the casette. My question is, how much water is the sunroof casette and subsequent drains designed to cope with? And what happens if the water level exceeds this? The car was parked with the NSR downhill so most of the water would have gone to this corner. Just want it right before I put it back together and have to end up takjng the carpet out again... Thanks in advance all! Ross |

Hi Ross,
Can you see exactly where the water is coming from? Is it coming from where the rubber drain tube attaches to the white plastic bit on the sunroof cassette, which would indicate the pipe is not tight enough? Could fitting a jubilee clip around the rubber drain tube where it attaches to the white plastic outlet on the cassette prevent water leaking from there? |

Hi Rick, thanks for your response, the water is coming out of the seam between the metal cassette and a white plastic box with a spout which the drain tube attaches to. It appears to the the seam. This being the case, do you think I will have to remove the cassette to repair or seal it or just seal the outside?
Thanks for your help, Ross |
