I got her a NIKON - D3200 DSLR Camera with 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 VR II Telephoto Zoom Lens which was recommended as a good value for money camera by her friend's husband who's a photographer

That looks an excellent camera to start out in the dslr world. In fact it makes my 5 year old entry level camera look a bit old hat.
