Hi all,
Made a start on my custom boot build project today. Firstly would like to say thanks to Carl (mantianak) who gave me his fibreglass sub box which he made for his car a few years back. Today i fitted a new dark accoustic carpet to the fibreglass sub box and then dismantled my JBL sub and fitted it to the fibreglass box. Also sprayed the protective bars blue as they were in a bit of a state. Fitted it all and tested it out, sound is spot on! Bass was a bit too boomy with the old large sub box, its now perfect . Got some more bits planned to do, the amp is currently temporarily screwed down on the false floor, but will be built into an enclosure with some blue leds and the boot false floor will be replaced as mines warped due to getting wet and the carpet needs replacing too. Thanks again Carl! Heres a before photo as a comparison. As you can see the box was quite large and taking up.a lot of space. It was also very heavy. Glad to have the boot space back and not carrying something heavy around any more The finish on the bars are actually a nice dark blue. Theyve shown up lighter than they actually are for some reason, probably because of some setting on my phone as i took the photos late in the evening when it was already getting dark.

Hi Rick
Like the look of that. What does it sound like in the car.Can you adjust sound so that bass comes from centre of cabin. If you know what I mean. |

The bass is not as deep and boomy as it was when fitted to the original sub box but still sounds fantastic and i like it that its not so boomy anymore . You cant tell where the bass is coming from if that makes sense, i.e the bass isnt obvious that its coming from the boot.

New Boot Floor
Built and fitted a new boot floor today using MDF, got rid of the old flimsy one and was so badly bowed.
I've made it so now only the centre of the boot floor lifts up when accessing the spare wheel, rather than having to lift the whole carpet. That way I dont have to remove my sub everytime I want to access the spare wheel well. Pretty happy with the finish, nice and clean now |

as said before, it looks really well. I didn't realise it was mdf, I would suggest painting the bare wood, especially the edges, to help seal out the damp being mdf can absorb moisture, swell and split.

Great work and nice lateral thinking
May well have to follow that one with the next project.
