Leather seats. The best way to clean them ?. - Page 2

With referance to the leather being sealed -does this wear off om high use areas ? The reason that I ask is because I find the Gliptone conditioner certainly seems to 'relax' the creases - particularly on the side bolsters - and it smells wonderful !

ive always used the autoglm cleaner and leather cream ,the cream gives the car a nice leathery smell

In this months Practical Classics car magazine, they are testing Leather Cleaners/Conditioners.....They awarded Gliptone 2 part cleaner and conditioner the best, i've used it on my seats and it's superb, and the smell is like a Rolls Royce.....

I use the Gliptone cleaner and conditioner, it's done a really good job of cleaning and left the seats feeling softer, looking more consistent and gives off a stronger leather smell that the car never had before. I used the same on a steering wheel and the gliptone worked very well there too.

But they are probably real leather, not coated leather!

We don't have leather seats, so get them professionally cleaned.

On the steering wheel, when we bought the car, I had to use cream cleaner, gently. It had really bad in ground dirt.
White vinegar works really well, as well.

Worked for Cambria mobel very expensive leather 3 piece suites for many years never used expensive cleaners as the leather was sealed like car leather , most 3 pieces are leather nubuck or aniline semi sealed leathers ......the best stuff for cleaning sealed leather or protected grain as it was called was Dreft washing powder .......and shoe polish for marks/scratches .....if the cracks in the leather are severe then you can sand it but this is extreme and need professional attention.....
how do you know if you have protected grain put a spot of water on the leather if its still there in 15 mins then its fully protected ..........you can get a sealer in a can to reseal.........as for feeding glipsome is ok

Try dreft on your home 3 piece works a dream if its still in shops

Ok - so the leather is sealed. How then does the Gliptone conditioner clearly soften and relax the leather ? Someone may say it doesn't or that I am imagining it - but I am reasonably objective and after 3 sessions with the conditioner there is a noticeable differance, particularly to the driver's bolster.

Gliptone smells great.
Dont need conditioner unless all the coating has gone, classic cars dont have the clear top coat so Gliptone is the weapon of choice there.

Creases could look softened slightly as the conditioner will sit ontop so masking slightly.

The fact the conditioner will sit ontop will mean that it will attract dirt also this dirt will be rubbed in and scratch the top coat so damaging or removing it.

No conditioner is needed for modern car leather despite smelling so nice...

The Dr leather wipes smell great and clean well.

Mild APC is a valid suggestion, for cleaning.

The main worry with the cream a beige seats is colour transfer from denim.
