Exclamation v6 2.5 auto Cruise Control not working

hi there,

I have done some research but still looking for a solution. The Cruise Control on my v6 2.5 AUTO somehow stops working.

  1. The center console cruise switch (master switch) seems ok, it turns green after pressing the button.
  2. The steering wheel control does not work, no matter I pull or set. the system does not engage. I couldn't see the yellow Cruise Control light on my dashboard.
  3. I have adjusted Brake Switch as recommended by most of the posts. It still the same. (v6 2.5 AUTO only got one Switch? let me know if I'm wrong)
  4. fuse checked for both glove box and engine bay, all good.
  5. when Cruise Control was still working, I can hear a little click sound from the bottom of the passager side when I pull or set buttons on the steering wheel and then the yellow Cruise Control light on, system working. But now, not anymore. I couldn't hear any sound when pull or set buttons.

I hope these descriptions make sense.

Any advice??

Richard

I have exactly the same problem with mine only in my case, it’s intermittent. Having ruled out the brake switch, I think it’s likely to be a vacuum release issue with the petrol models’ cruise control safety mechanism. I believe there’s a gaitor near the throttle body that may be damaged or loose that needs attention. I keep meaning to have a look and your post has given me a prompt. I’ll let you know what I find.

Do you have any issues with front ABS sensors?? I managed to snap the nearside front ABS wire whilst chnaging the coil spring and my cruise stopped working. When i had a similar intermittent ABS fault on the offside front, the speedo and fuel guage started playing up (now all sorted)!!

I think its either going to be vacuum related probably a vacuum leak or wheel speed sensor if you have abs issues or wheel speed sensor issues the cruise control will not engage at all

had this issue on my v6 and a local member's v6 as well. Both turned out to he the ECU for the cruise had failed. Replaced the ECU on both cars and that got the cruise working. The ECU is located behind the glove box.

the speedo is fine. Actually, it was not working last year. After changing the front ABS sensors, the speedo come back. The cruise was working fine until last few weeks.

the abs was not working for ages (more than 5 years i guess). but after abs stopped working, the cruise was still working perfectly until this few week.
